Spyros P. Nikas received his B.S. in chemistry from Aristotle University, Greece, and his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the same university in 1996. After postdoctoral work at the National Hellenic Research Foundation, Greece, and at the University of Connecticut, U.S.A., he accepted a position as Assistant Research Professor at the University of Connecticut. He was hired as a Senior Research Scientist at Northeastern University in 2004 and rose through the ranks to Associate Research Professor. His main research work focuses on the design and synthesis of biologically important cannabinoid ligands. His major goal is to explore the role of these compounds as biological/pharmacological tools and as potential drug candidates for pain, inflammation and central nervous system disorders.
